Antique or newer pewter, wash in a sudsy solution of warmwater and washing-up liquid.
Wipe the surface with sponge or soft cloth.
Rinse with clean water and drip dry on folded towel or dish rack.
To brighten modern pewter, use silver or brass polish or mildly abrasive scouring powder (ajax)
and soft cloth.
Do not use polish on antique pieces - it my decrease its value.
